Another US Department of Defense programme, Trippwire, is developing technology to detect such balloons and shoot them down. Knocking them out seems at first glance more complicated than shooting down a plane or drone, as the gondola lacks a pressurised cockpit, fuel tank, munitions or high-speed turbines. But, according to Bronk, while the attack "would not create an explosive event as a hit on an aircraft might, there’s still a good chance of taking it out of commission." The US Senate Committee on Armed Services believes that further testing and evaluation are still needed before the technologies in this project can transition to the military services.

Systems that measure wind patterns
The idea of using balloons for enemy surveillance is not new. The US did it decades ago. Project Genetrix was a US Air Force project that involved launching balloons over China, Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union to photograph secret infrastructure. Of the more than 500 balloons launched, 54 were recovered, but only 31 took useful images. This was because the aircraft could only move randomly in the wind.
To solve this problem, it was necessary to understand how the stratosphere works. In this layer of the atmosphere, wind patterns remain constant at a given altitude. Therefore, given the right weather information, it is possible to make the balloon go in any direction. The goal of Google's Project Loon initiative, which began to take shape in 2011, was to develop high-altitude balloons that, powered by the winds in the stratosphere, could provide Internet access to any corner of the globe. Some of these aircraft were used to provide emergency coverage to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
In recent years, some companies have improved wind prediction algorithms to enable these balloons to fly at the right altitude and in the right direction. Meanwhile, the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has developed a laser sensor for stratospheric balloons to measure wind speed and direction in real time and use this information to stay in place. Winds blow in different directions at different altitudes. "By flying higher, we hope to take advantage of a larger range of winds," says Alex Walan, the project manager in charge of designing this laser sensor.

All these advances aim to make stratospheric balloons a more affordable and viable alternative to other machines. Whether the tests by the US Department of Defense are successful and these aircraft eventually become a key military weapon for monitoring strategic locations remains to be seen. In the meantime, these balloons are being used today for all kinds of measurements. NASA has already used them to understand the connection between the Sun and the Earth and now plans to transport a 2.5-metre telescope to the stratosphere in a balloon. The race to conquer the heights still has a long way to go.

دو تا نکته در مورد ارزیابی جامع (Comprehensive examination)
ویژه دانشجویان دکتری ترم سوم به بالای رشته روابط بین الملل
1). این عمری که من کردم نه فقط سئوالات Comprehensive examination گروه روابط بین الملل دانشکده حقوق و علوم سیاسی بلکه اساسا تمام سئوالات امتحان های کلاسی و پایان ترم هم فقط چند دقیقه قبل از شروع آزمون از من تحویل گرفته و تکثیر شده (می بینید که معمولا چند دقیقه هم دیر سر جلسه دستتون میرسه!!!) پس اگر فرضا Torpedo نامی اندر شبکه های مجازی از Boss Baby Race نامی روایت کرد که سئوالات مثلا یک شب قبل از برگزاری آزمونی "دیده" یا "دیدیم" و خیلی خیلی سخت یا خیلی خیلی آسون بوده اصلا شک نکنید که داره بچه خر میکنه اگر سئوالات را دیده بود که خب بهتون میگفت چی سئوال اومده دیگه!!!
2). احتمالا این جوک را شنیدید که:
Student: Dr. Einstein, aren't these the same questions as last year's physics final exam?
Dr. Einstein: True enough, all the questions are the same; but this year, the answers are different.
خب این جوک دست کم تو روابط بین الملل خیلی هم جوک نیست! یعنی اگر چه دانستن این که سالهای قبل توسط چه اساتیدی چه سئوالاتی طرح شده هیچ وقت ضرر نداره اما اولا گروه ها همیشه سعی میکنند که جلوی تکراری بودن سئوالات را بگیرند و ثانیا حتی اگر یک سئوال مثلا در مورد اوکراین دقیقا مشابه سئوال کلاسی استاد یا سئوال امتحان جامع ترم قبلش باشه معنیش لزوما ین نیست که همون جواب را بنویسید نمره کامل می گیرید - شاید حتی رد بشید چون در جواب شما به خیلی از تحولات از اون موقع تا الآن توجهی نشده.

🎥 این روزها غرفه پیام رسان ایرانی ایتا در نمایشگاه رسانه های دیجیتال مورد استقبال گسترده فعالین فضای مجازی و سیاسی قرار گرفته است.
سالها بود که ما در پلتفرم‌های خارجی فعالیت میکردیم و هیچ دسترسی به مدیران این سکوها مانند تلگرام و اینستاگرام و.... نداشتیم . اما حالا به لطف نبوغ نخبگان داخل کشور توانستیم یک سکوی زیبا و جذاب مانند ایتا بسازیم و به راحتی با مدیران این پیام رسان ارتباط برقرار کنیم و دغدغه ها و ایده های خود را در میان بگذاریم....

دو نکته در مورد امتحانات ورودی دکتری
(برای دانشجویان کارشناسی ارشد)
1). اخیر عده ای سودجو شایعاتی از این دست را در فضای مجازی مطرح کردند که فلانی را "چون فلان استاد با استاد راهنماش بد بود!!!" در مصاحبه ورودی دکتری "ردش کرد" اما خوشبختانه وی در دانشگاه Massachusetts قبول شده و رستگار گردید.
در خصوص امکان رد کردن: اولا در گروه روابط بین الملل مصاحبه شفاهی فقط برای ارزیابی فن بیان و ... هست و کلش 12 نمره از 100 نمره آزمون را داره (ارزیابی علمی آزمون سربرگ جدا داره)، ثانیا حتی اگر یک استاد به کسی از خود این 12 نمره واقعا صفر هم داده باشه نمره اش با نمرات بقیه همه اساتید جمع و تقسیم بر تعداد اساید میشه لذا نمره ولو صفر در مصاحبه توسط یک استاد نمیتونه بیشتر از 1 نمره از صد نمره اثر داشته باشه. ثالثا این بنده خدا اگر واقعی باشه قاعدتا از شانسش در هیچ کدوم از گرایش های مطالعات منطقه ای و مطالعات جهان و هیچکدوم از بقیه دانشگاهایی که آزمون داده هم قبول نشده بدون این که فلان استاد ما بهش صفر یا 20 داده باشه بنا براین:
1). بله دانشجوهای ارشد ما از نظر علمی واقعا قوی هستند طوری که حتی قبول نشده های دکتری ما هم به راحتی در دانشگاه Massachusetts قبول میشن!!!
2). بله همه جای دنیا Concours مسابقه هست یعنی حتی اگر والتز و مورگنتا و ونت و مرشایمر و کاکس و ... دست هم دیگه را بگیرن برن یه دانشگاهی کنکور دکتری بدن آخرش باید غیر از سه نفرشون (که ظرفیت دکتری اون دانشگاه میشه) بقیه شون همه رد بشن تا کنکور برگذار شده باشه - به عبارت بهتر باید اینقدر ازشون امتحان بگیرند تا فقط سه نفر قبول بشن!!!
