The CIA was ready to pull the plug on the operation, but a 28-year-old British intelligence officer, monitoring events from a clandestine base in Cyprus, insisted on persevering. The coup – which took place this week 70 years ago – ultimately succeeded, Mohammad Mosadegh, the leader who was popular in Iran for nationalising a British-run oil-field, was detained, and the Shah flew back to Tehran, strengthened. ...In London, the coup was seen as a triumph, restoring partial control over Iranian oil fields, and sending a message that that post-imperial Britain could still wield clout around the world. Darbyshire seemed destined for the top of British intelligence, but his life and career were derailed by personal tragedy and he died in obscurity in 1993. His pivotal role in one of the most consequential events in modern Iranian history is only now coming into focus.

خوشبختانه در مورد کودتا بودن کودتای 28 مرداد اصلا جای هیچ حرف و حدیثی نیست، چرا؟ چون علاوه بر نوشته های سیاسیون و پژوهشگران و جاسوسهای آمریکایی و انگلیسی، از سال 2011 تا 2013 خود CIA کودتا کردنش تو ایران را با از طبقه بندی خارج کردن بخشی از اسناد رسما گردن گرفت، حتی مکاتبۀ مورخ (July 22, 1953 ) از طرف Kermit Roosevelt برای آماده کردن بیانیه دولت آمریکا بعد از (a successful coup) و متن پیشنهاد شده برای بیانیه را هم منتشر کرد. با همه این اوصاف یه عده تو ایران هنوز دارند با چرندیاتی از این دست که: "CIA و SIS از اون طرف دنیا اومدن ایران پول خرج کردند، آدم خریدند و آدم کشتند تا جلوی قانونشکنی را تو ایران بگیرند و مرقانون را تو ایران اجرا کنند" استریپتیز روشنفکرانه میکنند- بکن آقا! بکن! Iran UK should finally acknowledge role in 1953 Iran coup, says David Owen Former foreign secretary says doing so would benefit both reform movement in country and Britain’s credibility The UK should finally acknowledge its leading role in the 1953 coup that toppled Iran’s last democratically elected leader, for the sake of Britain’s credibility and the Iranian reform movement, a former foreign secretary has said. The US formally admitted its role 10 years ago with the declassification of a large volume of intelligence documents, which made clear that the ousting of the elected prime minister, Mohammad Mosadegh, 70 years ago this week was a joint CIA-MI6 endeavour. The formal UK government position is to refuse to comment on an intelligence matter. On the 70th anniversary of the coup on Tuesday, David Owen, who was foreign secretary from 1977 to 1979, told the Guardian: “There are good reasons for acknowledging the UK’s role with the US in 1953 in overthrowing democratic developments. By admitting that we were wrong to do so and damaged the steps that were developing towards a democratic Iran, we make reforms now a little more likely.”
