The ritual of Sineh-Zani (chest-beating) is one of the most common traditional mourning ceremonies for the Imams, especially Imam Hussain (PBUH), in Iran & other countries. Mourning participants beat their chests while reciting elegies. The origin of this practice is a type of emotional reaction. When a person reaches the peak of excitement, grief, or sadness, they express themselves through physical reactions. For example, during moments of joy, they may suddenly shout or clap their hands.
